Pierce County Zoos Open Martin Luther King Jr. HolidayTACOMA, Wash. - Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park near Eatonville will be open for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 19. Northwest Trek will hold the free Kids 'N' Critters Naturefest event from Saturday, Jan. 17, through Monday, Jan. 19. Up to four children under the age of 17 will be admitted free into the park with one full adult paid admission ($7- $8.75). Naturefest visitors will learn how animals and insects adapt to the winter cold, whether it's through thick furry coats or deep holes in the ground. Free activities include nature games, crafts, live animal presentations, park-wide scavenger hunt and naturalist-guided tram tour. Northwest Trek will open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium will open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. At the Zoo, visitors can enjoy the following animal presentations each day of the holiday weekend: 11 a.m.: Aquarium Both zoological parks are accredited by the American Zoo & Aquarium Association.
